Apprentice is the first of several books, to be published annually
by Lucky Press, in the series known as "Will Turner's Flight
Logs." This series introduces a variety of characters,
goth fictional and historic, engaged in the epic drama of the
early years of aviation. Interwoven throughout the stories are
the accurate descriptions of airplanes and flight that create
and absolutely authentic scene.
is the main character in each book in the series. The Aviators
Apprentice begins with Will in his early twenties and desperate
to fly. The century is young and the potential of aviation is
only just being recognized. The story opens in Florida, site
of the first scheduled passenger service, and continues in England
where Will goes to live with relatives to make his name as a
pilot and engineer. When Europe is plunged into World War I,
he is commissioned in the Royal Flying Corps where his intelligence,
character and bravery are tested to the limit.
